The English as an Additional Language (EAL) service is now being delivered locally by the Learning Support Team. The team provides support, advice and practical strategies to build the capacity of schools to recognised and meet the needs of EAL learners.
We have already undertaken a number of EAL audits. These are proving very popular with schools. They celebrate existing good practice and identify areas for development. We work with schools to prioritise the next steps and provide the support they need to improve their practice.
Training is offered as centrally delivered courses or as bespoke sessions in schools for small groups or the whole staff. So far 100% of our delegates tell us that the training is at least good and 60% think that it is excellent.
Work is also continuing on initiatives which are already underway such as EAL Coordinator network meetings and the Polish project.

No charge for maintained schools - The EAL service is commissioned by Worcestershire Schools Forum. Costs for maintained schools are met from de-delegated funding and no purchase is required. Non-maintained schools may purchase this service. For EAL learners with SEN, individual assessment and support can be purchased from the Learning Support Team.
